Tony Smith
Tony Smith was born in 1912. Initially acclaimed as an architect and painter, Smith did not concentrate on or exhibit his sculpture until 1961. From the time of his first one-person museum exhibition to that of his death, Smith established himself as one of the most important and influential artists of the twentieth century. His work continues to be widely shown, most recently including solo museum exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1998; and IVAM, Valencia, in 2002; as well as permanent installations at museums and public spaces in major cities throughout the world.
