Tod Papageorge began to photograph in 1962 at the University of New Hampshire, shortly before he received a degree in English Literature. Since 1979 he has been the Walker Evans Professor of Photography at the Yale University School of Art, where, as the Director of Graduate Studies, he has taught and supervised the course of study of many of the strongest American photographers of the last 25 years. In addition, he has written seminal essays on several significant American photographers, including Evans, Robert Frank, Garry Winogrand, and Robert Adams.
