John Russell Taylor

John Russell Taylor has worked at The Times (London) for most of his writing life, as, successively, Television Critic, Drama Critic, Film Critic, American Cultural Correspondent and, for the last thirty years, Art Critic. During his American years he was Professor in the Cinema Division of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He has lectured and broadcast extensively, edited Films and Filming magazine, and written some sixty books on subjects of film, theatre, art and cultural history, including Hitch, the authorised biography of Alfred Hitchcock; Strangers in Paradise: The Hollywood Emigres 1933-1950; The Hollywood Musical; and biographies of Alec Guinness, Orson Welles, Vivien Leigh and Ingrid Bergman, among others.
