Fran Lebowitz
Fran Lebowitz was born in Morristown, New Jersey. She hit the New York literary scene in the early 1970s when Andy Warhol hired her to write a column for Interview. Almost immediately she became a fixture in the magazine world. As a regular contributor to Mademoiselle, she soon became a name associated with irreverent humour and urban wit. Both Metropolitan Life (1978) and Social Studies (1981) were bestsellers. She is also the author of a children's book, Mr. Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas. Lebowitz still lives in New York City because she does not believe that she would be allowed to live anywhere else.
