Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin in conversion at the Barbican
Talk: Images of War
4 December 2008 | 7.30pm
The talk takes place at The Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London, EC2Y 8DS
Photographs of atrocities in war can inspire different reactions: a call for peace, a plea for revenge, revulsion, or simply an increasingly blunted awareness that terrible things happen in the world. Is it possible that instead of acting as a catalyst for social change, war photography has become a form of voyeurism, a contributor to an already image saturated world?
Or, can we still believe that photography has an ethical purpose in times of war? With Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, journalist, The Guardian and artists Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin.Chaired by Anthony Borden, Executive Director, Institute of War and Peace Reporting.
