Nationalgalerie - Special Edition
Steidl Editions
An integral part of Thomas Demand’s installation at the Neu Nationalgalerie in Berlin are specially designed vitrines positioned beside each of the 38 works in the show. These vitrines house two copies of a large format, hand-made version of the exhibition catalogue, opened to display the relevant accompanying text by Botho Strauß as a caption to each work. In each vitrine, one book displays the German text, the other displays the English translation by Joel Agee.
These special edition books have been hand-made by Bookworks in London and the large scale facilitates the legibility of the texts. Each offset printed image in the gatefolds has been tipped-in by hand. Every book is numbered and signed to form a unique edition with the distinct provenance of having played a key role in the exhibition at the Neu Nationalgalerie.
