Home is the third part of a color trilogy by the Swedish photographer Lars Tunbjörk. Whereas the focus of his earlier books Landet utom sig / Country Besides Itself (1993) and Office (2002) were leisure time and the world of office labor respectively, the Home series started when he went back to his childhood neighborhood and photographed his mother’s house. Surprisingly intrigued by this experience, he continued shooting in similar areas around Sweden. Saturated with personal memories, the images convey the peculiar atmosphere of silence that characterizes middle-class housing areas.
While many artists of his generation have treated the same subject matter, Tunbjörk has managed to mix humor and intelligent observation with an almost apocalyptic sense of direction.
