The Cows

In the mid 1970s Larry E. McPherson made an amazing series of cow photographs at a Midwestern farm. The setting was the natural oak savannahs on the Illinois-Wisconsin border where the cows were put out to pasture. The pictures, some made in day light and some made at night, capture a range of the cows’ activities and moods. In 1978 the photographs were exhibited in a one-person exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago and several group exhibitions that traveled in the United States and in Europe. This is the first time this distinctive series of photographs has been made into a book.
