Anthony McCall

Anthony McCall is an artist living and working in New York City. Upon graduating as a graphic designer from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design in London in 1968, he began almost immediately to explore conceptual photography, especially in relation to performance-based practices, as a subject in itself. By the early 1970s these interests drew him to filmmaking. His most influential work to date, a film entitled Line Describing a Cone, premiered in Stockholm in 1973. Since then he has exhibited his film installations in major exhibitions across North America and Europe, including retrospectives organized by the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, and Warwick Art Centre, University of Warwick, Coventry in 2004. Earlier that same year new work by McCall was included in the Whitney Biennial in New York.
