Richard Misrach

Richard Misrach was born in Los Angeles in 1949 and received a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. His photographs have been widely exhibited and published, and are in the collections of over fifty major institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Museum of Modern Art, all in New York; the National Gallery of Art, Washington; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; and the Musée d’Art Moderne, Paris. Selections from his Desert Cantos have appeared in several award-winning monographs, among them Desert Cantos, Bravo 20: The Bombing of the American West, Violent Legacies, Crimes and Splendors: The Desert Cantos of Richard Misrach, The Sky Book, and Golden Gate. Misrach is the recipient of four NEA Fellowships, the PEN Literary Award, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, among others.
